CRMC recently purchased three electrolarynx devices. The devices are typically used in people who have had larynx surgery, but have recently proven useful for patients who are in critical care and intubated. “When they’ve got the tubes in between their vocal chords that makes them unable to speak. At times people try to write, but with the medications we use it can be rather difficult,” said Dr. Sodienye Tetenta, the Medical Director of the Critical Care Unit at CRMC. “So this device gives us that place to actually have people vocalize and it can be quite tremendous.”
The electrolarynx devices were purchased with a $1,400 grant from Cheyenne Regional’s Foundation.
